Small & Exotic Animal Services

Our small furry, scaly and feathered companions deserve to be as happy and healthy as they can be. Veterinary physiotherapy can be used to address traumatic or acute injuries. It is also effective for pain management, wound healing and mobility issues. Working with small companion and exotic animals requires creativity and a good understanding of what your pet is comfortable with. I provide a sympathetic and adaptable approach to every patient I treat, including a variety of hands off therapies to reduce stress levels.

Below is a summary of a standard 60-90 minute consultation.

Assessment

At your home I watch your pet’s behavior and movement, complete an assessment of their musculoskeletal structure — both visually and with palpation, if appropriate. My focus is to find areas of abnormalities, discomfort or restriction. We will talk about your pet’s normal behavior and routine. I then formulate a plan to manage any issues identified.

Treatment

Treatment is bespoke to each animal and will be based on what they are comfortable with. This maybe massage and stretches or a variety of treatment modalities including therapeutic ultrasound, laser therapy, pulsed electromagnetic field, kinesiology taping and TENs. Use of the additional treatments is based on the clinical need of each pet.

Rehabilitation

I work with you to develop a rehab plan to complete until the next visit or maintenance check. This could be massage and gentle joint mobilisation, through to adaptations to their home environment. I take into account your time, and what your pet is comfortable with. Every rehab plan is bespoke for your animal.
